Where Can I Find Random Plant Seeds for My Terrarium?

Asked By CuriousCat42 On

I'm trying to create a terrarium filled with random weeds (the kind that grow haphazardly and aren't typically wanted), not to be confused with marijuana. My search for suitable plant seeds keeps leading me to wildflower or tree seeds, or worse, cannabis seeds! I'm specifically looking for sources in the East Coast of the USA that offer just ordinary weeds. Any suggestions?

Honestly, one of the easiest ways to get weeds is to just set a pot outside for a while and see what pops up! What's considered a weed varies from person to person, so you might be surprised at what you find. Plus, you can even use some of those weeds as conversation starters in your terrarium!

Absolutely! I have a small area in my garden where I let noxious weeds grow just to show people what they look like. Another option is to collect seeds from local weeds in your neighborhood and plant those yourself.

A really cheap way to get some seeds is just to collect them from your backyard or local parks. Some companies sell weed seeds for educational purposes, but I can't name any off the top of my head. They’re often found in small vials for identification in weed science classes.

Have you tried looking for native prairie seeds online? Since "weeds" are basically just unwanted plants, it can be tough to find exact matches. But those native seeds could work for your terrarium!
