Where Should I Place Blast Gates in My Dust Collection System?

I'm in the process of adding PVC ductwork for my dust collection system and I have a question about the placement of blast gates. Should I install them at each tool, or could I place them at various branches in the system instead? What's the best setup for efficiency?

It really depends on your setup. I actually have blast gates at both the branches and the tools. This way, I can completely turn off one side of the system while using the other, which is handy. Plus, having gates at the tools lets you control the airflow better.

I've been thinking about a similar approach for my system, with a main line and a few branches. Might give that a try!

I've found that it's best to have the blast gates right at the tools. It makes them super easy to operate when you need to quickly switch between machines, and it helps maintain good suction.

Yeah, I think that makes sense. I was also considering that for my setup. The only worry I have is about the "dead" space from the inactive lines affecting suction.

Don't forget about grounding your system! It might be a good idea to run a ground wire throughout for safety.
