Hey everyone! I've got a quick question about fire extinguishers. I have three: one large and two medium-sized ones. I'm trying to figure out the best spots to put them in my shop. Right now, I have one next to the exit door, but I'm wondering if that's the best place. Any advice on where to put them?

It really depends on your shop layout. You want your extinguishers within reach of hazardous materials, but not right next to them. If something goes up in flames, you should be able to grab the extinguisher quickly without being in danger. Making sure there's some distance is key to staying safe.
I always keep my fire extinguishers near the entrance or exit of my shop. That way, if a fire breaks out while I'm in there, I'm close to an exit as I try to put it out. Plus, if I'm not in the shop and something starts burning, having the extinguisher right inside the door is key for a quick response. Just a tip: keep the extinguisher away from potential fire sources, like the stove in a kitchen. You don’t want to have to get too close to grab it!
Great advice! I never thought about the kitchen angle!
Definitely keep them close, but not too close! Also, remember to check your extinguishers at least once a year. Some fire departments might even assist you if you take them in. And if you've got a tight budget, having a couple of small ones near risky machinery—around 5-6 feet away—can really help. Just make sure you keep the doors closed if there's a fire, as that can slow it down until help arrives.

Thanks for this! Safety first, right?
