Where Should I Plant My Rose Bush: In a Pot or in the Ground?

I recently received a rose bush as a gift, but I'm not sure how to take care of it since I don't have experience. I have the option to either pot it on the south side of my house, where it would get plenty of sunlight, but I worry about water access since I can only water it once a week. Alternatively, I could plant it in the ground on the north-east or north-west side of my property. Which option would be better for the rose bush?

I'd suggest planting it in the ground too. Roses generally thrive better when they're not confined to a pot. Just ensure it's not too shaded! If it has to be on the north side, being 1 meter from the building should be fine. As for choosing between north-east and north-west, there’s not much difference as long as it gets some sun!

Thanks for the input! I’ll make sure to keep it on the north side.

You should definitely go for planting it in the ground on the north-east or north-west side. Roses are pretty tough, but with the pot on the sunny south side, you might struggle to keep it hydrated enough since you can't water it daily. The ground is usually a safer bet!
