I'm on the hunt for a hickory log that's about 8 feet long with a diameter of around 10 to 12 inches, and I'm particularly interested in shag hickory. I'm looking to craft a traditional wooden lacrosse stick, but finding suppliers who sell whole logs online has been tough. If anyone has ideas on how I could source a single log, it would be much appreciated. Ideally, I'd love to cut down the tree myself if possible!

Just a heads up, a log that size could weigh between 350 and 500 pounds, and you’ll only be using a tiny fraction of that for your stick. While it's a cool idea to make it traditional, you might want to reconsider sourcing a whole log. Also, check out some resources on traditional stick-making; they might offer alternative methods!
I suggest calling up some local tree service companies. They might have hickory logs or could point you in the direction of someone who does. Plus, they might even let you cut one down yourself if you ask nicely!
That's a great suggestion, thank you!

I plan to split it into smaller pieces since I’ll need extras for mistakes and also want to make a few to give away. I understand it’s not practical for just one stick, but I want to get as close to the traditional process as possible!
