I'm in search of a 30 or 55-gallon drum to use for my dust collector. I've checked Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist, but no luck finding any used ones. Ordering online seems too costly due to high shipping fees for just one barrel. While I know I could opt for a plastic trashcan, I prefer the drums because of their secure lever lock lids and durability. Does anyone have suggestions on local stores or places I could call that might sell used barrels at a reasonable price? I'm considering bakeries for flour or sugar containers but hesitant about auto shops since I need oil-free drums.

Have you tried checking with local Chinese restaurants? They often get soy sauce in large containers which can be very sturdy. I've managed to repurpose a few for other projects and they hold up great! But just make sure to ask if they have removable lids because some might come with a spout.
Local bottling plants or breweries are also promising options. They usually have barrels that haven't been contaminated with harsh chemicals, so you might find something that's perfect for your needs. It's worth giving them a call or stopping by to ask!
Just hang in there on Craigslist! Good deals pop up every once in a while, so keep checking back. You might be surprised at what comes up!

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely reach out to a few places and see what they have to say.
