Where to Find Used Hand Tools in Europe?

Asked By C4tW1zard89 On

I'm on the hunt for some used hand tools, specifically hand planes, and I'm having a tough time locating anything decent in Europe. The local online marketplace hasn't yielded good results, and the few options I've seen had prices that rival new hand planes. Does anyone have suggestions on where I might find good used tools without breaking the bank?

Finding used hand tools can be a bit of a treasure hunt! If you’re in the EU, I’d suggest setting up saved searches on eBay. You can often find great deals there, with listings popping up regularly. But if you’re not picky, local Facebook marketplace might have some hidden gems, though it can sometimes take quite a bit of time to sift through.

If you’re looking online, check out Ducotools, which operates within the EU, and also Tooltique if UK shipping is an option for you. Both have good reputations; I ordered some great stuff from them before things got tricky with currency rates. Definitely worth checking out!

From my experience in different countries:
1. If you’re in Cyprus, good luck—there's almost nothing available.
2. In Greece, you'd have to dig deep; local antique shops occasionally have tools, but it's super rare! You might get lucky when shops close down, but expect only the very basic tools.
3. The UK is your best bet! eBay has a ton of listings for hand planes at reasonable prices—often under 10 pounds. Carboot sales and charity shops can yield good finds too, but you might have to persevere a bit!
