I'm trying to build a DIY drone and I'm looking for ways to source aluminum materials without spending money. I know things like dumps and scrapyards might be good options, but I'm not familiar with what's typically available. I've heard of using bike frames and maybe small parts from electronics, but I'm not sure how viable those options are. I'm based in Czechia, so if anyone has advice on what kinds of aluminum can be found locally or anything specific I should look for, that would be super helpful! Also, trivial question – is aluminum hard to come by?

You can definitely source aluminum from places like soda cans, but they do have plastic liners that make them a bit tricky to use for building. I'm really interested to see how you'll tackle that! Good luck with your project!

I used to work with metals during my electrician studies, and yeah – you’ll want larger pieces like bike frames for your drone. Just be careful about bending them, as that can lessen their strength. Melting down smaller parts to create new shapes is an option, but it can get complicated. I admire your enthusiasm to figure it out!
