Hey everyone! I've got a VW Passat that I'm starting to work on, and since it's a European car, most of the sizes I'm dealing with are metric. I'm mainly working with 10mm, 13mm, and sizes up to 24mm for the axle nut. I've been using a 3/8 impact for most of the smaller sizes, but I'm debating whether to get a 1/2 or 3/8 stubby impact for some heavy-duty work ahead, like replacing the suspension and brakes. I've got some tools already, including an M12 drill and impact driver, but I'm looking for the best compromise for a first major impact tool. Should I go for the 1/2 stubby or stick with the 3/8, considering I might need to borrow the 1/2 occasionally? Any suggestions?

I’d say go with the 3/8. You can find individual sockets up to 24mm on Amazon for a decent price, and there are nice socket sets available too. If you ever hit a point where the stubby can’t handle something, you can always grab a high-torque 1/2" later on. But for now, the 3/8 should serve you well!
