I'm trying to decide between the M12 1/2" and 3/8" impact wrenches. I'll be using it for car and tire work and want to buy just one. Should I go with the 3/8" and use a half-inch adapter, or is it better to choose the half-inch and use a 3/8" adapter? I'm aware that using an adapter can reduce power, but I'd like to know what the community thinks is the best option for versatility. Any advice would be appreciated!

Both my M18 mid torque and M12 stubby are 1/2", and I've never had a problem with adapters. I actually saw a video that mentioned a significant power loss when going from 3/8" to 1/2", about 20%, whereas the reverse situation is only about 7%.
If you're looking to buy just one, I'd recommend the M12 1/2" impact. It's more versatile for all-around use, especially for jobs like removing lug nuts.
Why do you think the 1/2" is a better choice?
I chose the 3/8" since I typically work on smaller projects. It's good enough for heavier tasks too—I've taken down my power rack without losing much power using a 1/2" adapter on larger bolts.
That’s reassuring! I'm still doing some research, but your experience helps.
Thanks for sharing that info! It sounds like going with a 1/2" might be the way to go.
