Which Lunchbox Planer is Easiest to Repair?

Asked By CraftyFox82 On

I'm curious about which lunchbox-style planer has the best reputation for being repairable and maintaining long-term parts availability. Whether it's a new model or a vintage one, I'm looking for something reliable. I don't require extreme precision since I'm mainly a handtool user and will do final adjustments with a hand plane. Also, I'm located in the US, so that could influence my options.

If you're considering the DeWalt, go for it! In my experience, it really stands out among its peers, and maintenance has been a breeze. Just get it and enjoy the results!

I've had a Makita for over 20 years, and it's just kept running smoothly! I can't comment on its repairability since I've never had to fix it. I did upgrade to a helical cutter, which was easy to do. I just make sure to clean and lubricate it from time to time to keep it in great shape.

The DeWalt 735 is well known for having lots of parts available. It's a solid choice if you're looking for something that you can fix easily over time. Just keep in mind that some replacement parts can get pricey as they age. I had to invest in a few key components for my older model, the 734, but eventually upgraded to the 735 and it's been great since!

I’ve got the DeWalt 735 too and have had zero issues in eight years. Honestly, I think it's the best lunchbox planer out there. Just go for it!

That’s true! But be aware, replacing specific parts can cost a bit, especially on older models. It's worth it for the performance though!
