We're in the process of building a new home and I can't help but reflect on all the frustrations I've had with hardwired smoke alarms in the past. They'd randomly chirp in the middle of the night for no good reason, and I'd be waking up at 1 am, just wanting to throw them out the window! Has anyone here had decent experiences with smoke alarms that don't beep incessantly? I'm specifically curious about which brands perform better over time, ideally ones that don't need to be replaced every couple of years or so.

High humidity levels can sometimes trigger false alarms. Do you have your windows open at night? That can definitely mess with the detectors.
Sometimes chirping issues can arise when it’s time for a change. Just remember, even hardwired smoke detectors usually have a battery backup, so you might want to check if they were installed correctly. They should last at least 10 years!
I had an electrician check my setup when my detectors went bad quickly, and they assured me everything was fine, which cost me quite a bit... They suggested it might have been a 'bad batch' of alarms.
Definitely check the expiration dates on both your alarms and their batteries. I had to swap out batteries in smoke alarms that were only 8 years old! It's easy to overlook that even hardwired models need a battery replacement now and then.
I've used Kidde hardwired smoke detectors for years, and honestly, the only chirps I've ever experienced were for low battery warnings or the 10-year end-of-life signal for CO detectors. They’ve been pretty reliable for me!
I've had a long run with Kidde too, but there’s this one spot in my house between the kitchen and bathroom where they just don't last. I find myself replacing them every 1-2 years, which is frustrating! But the others work fine.
Nope, we're setup with a heat pump for both heating and cooling, which keeps the air flowing nicely. Plus, where I live in the PNW, it’s more dry than humid most of the year.
