Who Can Help with HVAC Ductwork Problems?

I'm facing a bunch of issues with my home's ductwork. There's a lot of condensation on the main duct going upstairs in the summer, which has resulted in significant water damage. Also, I've noticed plenty of air leaks throughout the system, and the vent and return placements in my upstairs addition seem questionable at best. On top of that, the temperatures in different rooms are super inconsistent, likely due to airflow problems. I know there are professionals who use various tools, like airflow meters and inspection cameras, to assess and fix ductwork issues. Since we have some walls open for unrelated renovations, I want to bring someone in to take a look at the ductwork while we have easy access. However, I'm having a hard time finding the right kind of contractor for this job. I've reached out to several companies that handle residential HVAC work, but they all act surprised that I'm asking them to assess the ductwork. What type of contractor or company specializes in troubleshooting and fixing ductwork issues?

Certified HVAC contractors should be equipped to handle ductwork issues, so it’s odd that no one seems willing to take a look! You might want to keep searching because it’s definitely part of their job description. It makes me wonder if they’re just not interested in those types of repairs.

Exactly! It’s frustrating to hear them say they don’t do that. I thought contacting both big companies and individual contractors would cover all my bases.

You might want to look for smaller, independent HVAC shops. The larger companies are often more focused on sales and may not take the time to dive deep into ductwork issues. It sounds like they might be more interested in pushing equipment sales than actually helping with your problems. These smaller shops, especially mom-and-pop ones, often have more knowledgeable staff who aren’t pressured to make sales and can really assess your duct situation properly.

Yeah, that definitely matches my experience. I think one of the companies I called was bought by a private equity firm, which would explain the shift in focus.

An HVAC company should definitely be the go-to for this kind of work. It's just weird that you're not finding anyone willing to help! Maybe try expanding your search to nearby areas or even ask for referrals from friends or neighbors to find the right contractor.

Haha, right? I’ll have to keep searching and maybe hit up some local recommendations. Thanks for the tip!
