Why am I having trouble finding a stud for my TV mount?

I'm trying to mount my TV and used the included drilling template with my stud finder. I know that studs are usually spaced 16 inches apart, but occasionally they can be 24 inches apart. I've successfully drilled into three spots that hit studs, but I can't find a stud for the fourth hole (bottom left). Strangely, it seems like it's just missing! Plus, when I looked for the studs running the other way, they're 18 inches apart instead of 16. Is there something I'm missing, or does my house have a unique stud layout that's making this mounting a challenge?

You probably missed the edge of the stud. It’s also possible that studs aren’t perfectly spaced at 16 inches due to some irregularities in construction. Keep that in mind!

It sounds like you might have just missed the edge of the stud. If the first three holes are good, I’d just use a wall anchor for that fourth hole and move on. It should hold just fine!

Consider using a magnetic stud finder. They can help you locate the studs more accurately compared to the standard ones. I find it super useful in tricky situations like yours!
