Why Are All the Outlets in My Mom’s Bedroom Not Working?

I'm asking this question for my mom, who doesn't use Reddit and doesn't have much experience with electrical issues. The overhead light is functioning, but none of the outlets in her bedroom are working. She has already tried flipping the breakers on and off multiple times. We even checked the GFCI outlet in the bathroom and reset it, but it didn't seem to help. There's one other thing: there was a moment when one of the lamps flickered on when a breaker was switched, but it shorted out immediately. Any ideas on what could be going on?

If none of that works, it might be best to call an electrician. I know that might be tough, especially financially, but electrical issues can be tricky and hazardous to handle on your own. Better safe than sorry!

Yeah, I get that. I just hope it's something simple we can fix ourselves.

Fingers crossed for a simple fix!

It could also be that a breaker looks like it's on but is actually tripped. Try turning it completely off and then back on. Also, if you live in a shared space, make sure to check for another breaker box nearby.

Good tip! I’ll check the other boxes around the house too.

It sounds like the outlets might be tied to a GFCI outlet somewhere, often found in bathrooms or kitchens. Make sure to check all GFCI outlets and reset them. If that’s not it, consider the possibility of a faulty outlet or even a loose wire.

Definitely check everywhere for those GFCI outlets! Sometimes they can be tricky to find.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll double-check all around the house.
