Why Are My Cucumbers Turning Yellow? Am I Growing Squash Instead?

Hey everyone! So here's my dilemma: my cucumbers are turning yellow, and frankly, they look a lot like the summer squash I've got planted nearby. The plants are still pretty young, and right now, I'm only seeing the female flowers with these yellow, squash-like things underneath them. I've labeled everything correctly from the greenhouse, so I'm sure I planted cucumbers. Is this something that's normal for cucumbers, or did the greenhouse mess up and give me squash instead? This is my first year trying to grow these vegetables, so I'm just a bit confused! Thanks for any help!

I totally get the confusion! Cucumbers can have a yellow phase as they grow, but if you’re only seeing yellow shapes that look like squash, it might mean there's a mix-up with the seedlings. Sometimes greenhouses don’t label perfectly! Just keep an eye on them, and if they stay yellow, it could be worth checking with where you got them. Don't worry, every garden has its quirks!

Hey there! Don't feel silly for asking; it's a common concern when you're starting out! Yellow cucumbers can sometimes just be a stage they go through, especially if they're not fully mature yet. It’s also possible they’re a variety that’s supposed to be yellow, like 'Lemon Cucumbers'. However, if they look more like squash, it could be a mix-up. A picture would definitely help us figure it out! Good luck with your garden!
