Why Are My Doors and Cabinets So Noisy? Any Fixes?

I'm having a problem with my doors and cabinets making loud noises when they open. I suspect this might be due to the paint, possibly it's still tacky after all these years, even though it's been cured. I just painted the doors and trim at my girlfriend's house, and they don't have this issue. Do you think the paint might be too thick, or do I need to strip and redo it? I wanted to share a video to illustrate the noise but it seems I can't do that here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If the doors are rubbing against the frame or sticking to each other, the paint might be too thick. Over time, if you close painted surfaces while they're still tacky, they can bond and stay soft. Sanding the surfaces might be necessary, based on my own unfortunate experience.

You might want to try lubricating the hinges! Just avoid regular WD-40; a silicone lubricant works better. Cooking oil is a bad idea since it attracts dirt. If the noise persists, consider using sticky felt dots on the edges of the cabinets to cushion them when closing. It could quiet things down without major repairs!

I think the hinges are fine because I've replaced them, and the doors made noise before and after that. I might try those felt dots for the cabinets since that seems like a simple fix.

It could be that your hinges are just not suited for your doors, especially if you used different ones at your girlfriend's place. Have you checked if the hinges are installed properly? Sometimes it's just about how they're mounted.

I actually swapped out the hinges for the same kind she has, and the noise still persists. Plus, it's happening with my cabinets too.
