I have two packets of marigold seeds (Tagetes) that I received last year, and I've been trying to get them to germinate. I started by pushing them into little soil blocks, and when that didn't yield any results, I switched to using food trays filled with seed starting mix. Sadly, I've seen zero germination from the marigolds while all my other seeds are sprouting just fine. I thought marigolds were supposed to be easy to grow; did my seeds go bad?

I've had a similar experience! Inside, the seeds often don't do well for me. But when I just toss them outside into random pots, they seem to do just fine. They’re like my little 'chaos plants'! Easy to spot when they pop up, so I never mistake them for weeds.
It might depend on the type of marigolds you have. I've had great success with French marigolds, but I've found African and gem marigolds a bit trickier to germinate. Maybe getting a specific variety is the key?
Sounds like a good plan! I was aiming for a tidy garden with seedlings in neat rows, but maybe chaos patches would be the way to go with these marigolds.
