Why Are My Solar Panels Underperforming?

Hey everyone! I recently installed four 400w solar panels on my roof specifically for my mini split AC unit. My house is in the middle of a field, where I get direct sunlight from about 10am to 8pm without any clouds. However, even on sunny days, I'm only seeing a maximum output of around 1000w, and it usually averages between 500-800w. I feel like I should be getting more from my setup. Am I expecting too much, or is there something I might be missing here?

The angle and alignment of your panels might be affecting their performance. Are they facing the right direction, and what's their pitch? If you're in the middle of a field, ground mounting might actually be better since you can aim them for maximum sunlight. Plus, with ground mounts, you could adjust the pitch seasonally. Just a thought!

First off, it sounds like you're doing great with a solar setup! One thing to consider is what kind of inverter you're using. If your inverter operates more efficiently at a higher voltage, it may not be performing as well in your current setup. You could also test the power coming off the panels with a multimeter to see if there’s an issue with the panels themselves.
