Why are my Tapcon screws falling out of a concrete wall?

I recently bought some Tapcon concrete anchor screws to install a cat shelf, but I'm having a problem—the screws just pull right out no matter how I attempt to install them. Does anyone have advice on what I might be doing wrong or how to fix this issue?

If your shelf is on the heavier side, you might want to look for larger screws or even additional anchors to keep everything stable. Always better to be safe, especially with something that supports weight!

It sounds like you might be drilling the holes too wide for the anchors. Make sure you're using the correct drill bit size that matches your Tapcon screws. If the holes are already too big, try filling them with some construction adhesive before reinstalling the screws. Just let it set and then give it another go! Also, remember that Tapcons should only be driven in once and not backed out repeatedly like wood screws. Just get them snug and leave them be!

Yeah, construction adhesive can really help, especially if the grip is already loose!

Make sure you're not over-torquing the screws either; that can cause them to lose grip in the concrete. If you’re still having issues, consider using plastic concrete anchors instead—they often hold better for lighter loads! Just double-check that you're drilling into actual concrete and not something softer like stucco or drywall.
