I attempted to start my first garden three weeks ago, and so far, the only thing that's sprouted are these onions. I followed some YouTube videos that suggested placing a whole onion in a water container to encourage root growth, but they all just seem to dry up before they develop any roots. The same issue is happening with the garlic; I even noticed some bubbles in the water yesterday. From what I gathered from videos, I expected the roots to start growing within 2 to 3 days, but every vegetable I planted just dies. Can anyone offer advice?

It sounds like you're following that common trick for growing green onions, but it's possible that the onions you used are treated with growth inhibitors. Are you trying the same method with your garlic? That could be affecting it too!
Yeah, I filled a plastic bottle with water and placed the garlic bulbs on top, cutting the tips off. I figured that would help, but I’m having no luck either. I also trimmed the bottom of the onion where the roots are, but only one of them has managed to grow. It’s frustrating!

Have you been changing the water regularly? Sometimes stale water can mess with growth. Just a thought!
