Why Aren’t Any Birds Visiting My Garden Feeder?

I recently moved into a new place in December, and the garden was a total disaster with trash and dead plants everywhere. After cleaning it up and installing water sprayers to deter the local cat population, we're finally starting to set up some beautiful planters and a large bird feeder. However, it's been two weeks and not a single bird has come to use it! I've tried moving the feeder and changing the food around, but nothing seems to work, even though there are multiple bird nests in the hedges nearby. What could I be doing wrong to keep the birds away?

From my experience, it can take time, especially if there’s still plenty of natural food available. Try offering high-energy foods during this nesting season—things like suet pellets and sunflower hearts. Just be patient, and they’ll likely start to show up! Also, it helps if the feeder is positioned in a more sheltered spot, as birds are cautious about open areas.

Definitely! I’ve noticed that pigeons tend to signal to smaller birds when it’s safe to come around. Maybe try tossing some food on the ground to attract them!

Be patient! It took a few weeks for birds to start using my feeder too. Just leave it in one spot without moving it around. Perhaps try a bird table or sprinkle some food around the area to entice them to come. They’re likely just adjusting to the changes in their environment.

It can take quite a while for birds to discover a new feeding spot, sometimes even weeks or months! I recommend picking a spot that has some shelter, like near a bush or hedge. Also, try offering a variety of food options—like a ground tray and hanging feeders—to attract different birds. I’ve found that sunflower hearts are a favorite! Good luck getting those feathered friends to visit!
