I'm trying to understand why I can't use a Slide-In range in the same way I'd use a freestanding range. We're renovating our house, and my wife, who is shorter, prefers ranges with front controls, which are mostly Slide-In models. However, I've learned that these require counters for support. Currently, the range would be placed in an area without any counters on either side or a bridge in the back. Can someone explain why Slide-In ranges can't stand alone? Can they not support their own weight, or are there kits that might help integrate them into a space like a freestanding range? I just want to get a clear picture of why these options differ so much. Thanks for any insights!

You can technically place a Slide-In range in an open area, but it really depends on the dimensions. Slide-In models are often less deep than freestanding ones and may need counter support to be stable. Also, they usually come at a higher price. Are you looking at gas or electric models here?
