So, my dad has been doing some typical gardening stuff today—pruning plants and weeding, nothing out of the ordinary. However, when I came downstairs, I was hit by a strong smell of chlorine in the living room. It turned out my father poured TWELVE bottles of chlorine all over the garden tiles, and my mom has no clue why he would do something like that. To make matters worse, we've been feeding a family of hedgehogs living in our garden, which Dad used to think was cool! I'm really confused and worried; does anyone know what might be going through his mind? Should I be concerned about his health too?

It sounds like he might be misinformed about gardening practices. There’s often outdated advice floating around that leads people to use hazardous substances like chlorine for gardening. What you should do is minimize exposure for the hedgehogs and any plants. Give the area a thorough rinse if possible. Let him know it's not safe for the garden or wildlife to use so much chlorine. This could definitely warrant further discussion about his decision-making too.
This situation definitely raises some red flags. It could be a sign of cognitive decline if he’s being uncharacteristic. Chlorine isn’t something you casually use in the garden, and it poses risks for wildlife like your hedgehogs. I'd recommend having a serious talk with him about it and, if necessary, getting him a check-up. Having his health in mind is key here; you wouldn't want to overlook any potential issues.
Definitely look for those hedgehogs and move them somewhere safe away from the chlorine. They shouldn’t have to suffer due to this! I’m worried about them.
It sounds like he might have thought he was cleaning the tiles or maybe trying to kill weeds. But honestly, twelve bottles is an extreme overkill! I think you should definitely talk to him about it, especially if it’s not like him to make decisions like this. If he’s acting normal otherwise, then maybe he just got some bad advice? But still, that's too much chlorine for one spot, so it might be a good idea to keep an eye on him or consult a doctor just to be safe.
Yeah! We need to know why he thought this was a good idea. It’s concerning to hear he used that much.

Right? It’s just not something any good gardener would do! Have a conversation about it and help educate him.
