Why Did My Landlord Open Up the Wall Next to My Shower After a Drain Issue?

I'm a renter dealing with a slow-draining tub in my apartment. After experiencing ongoing drainage problems since I moved in, my landlord finally arranged for a drain re-pipe a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, the problem reappeared and the drain started backing up again. Recently, a plumber came to take a look while I wasn't home, and when I returned, I found a hole in the wall next to the shower. I haven't received any explanation from my landlord about why this was necessary. Can anyone shed some light on why they might have needed to open the wall?

They may have opened the wall to get to the plumbing from the other side of your tub. It's common for plumbers to access pipes that way, especially if they need to snake the drain. If there was a blockage farther down the line, they might have needed to ensure the flow was clear. It's a hassle, but it could be necessary.

It sounds like they might need access to the plumbing behind the wall to fix the drain properly. Typically, plumbing issues can sometimes be resolved by going through the wall if it's easier than crawling under the tub. Opening up the wall allows them to check for clogs, leaks, or any issues that might not be visible otherwise. It's a pretty standard move in plumbing repairs, especially in rental properties where access is a bit limited.

It's likely they needed to inspect or fix something directly behind that wall. Sometimes the issue isn't just the visible plumbing and could involve connections or blockages that are out of sight. If your landlord didn't inform you, it might have been an oversight, but it’s worth asking them for more details!
