Why Did My Tiling Cost Go Up with Different Tiles?

I'm wondering about the labor cost for tiling in Lahore. I received a quote for my tiling project, but then the price increased after I selected a specific tile. Is this a typical practice in the industry?

Every job typically has a breakdown of labor and materials costs. If it's a larger project, they might have tried to simplify the quote, but there are still those labor costs hiding in there! With tiling, things can get tricky, especially if you choose complex designs or materials.

100% true! Mosaics usually come with an upcharge, and larger format tiles can as well. It's just how the tiling business tends to operate—more detailed work means more labor costs.

It's a bit odd they didn't ask about your tile choice upfront—I mean, some patterns definitely require more labor. It sounds like they might have underestimated your specific selection's complexity, which can lead to that unexpected price increase.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. I actually had already picked my tile when they gave me the quote, and it’s a 15x6 area for the shower. Not sure if that changes anything.

Yeah, the cost can vary quite a bit depending on the tile you pick. For example, larger tile sizes or intricate patterns definitely influence labor costs. They likely gave you a standard quote that covers the most common tile selections, which might not include the extra effort needed for your specific design. Just think about it: a straightforward 12x12 layout will be quicker than a fancy herringbone pattern, right?

That makes sense! I ended up with a mosaic tile which I thought was decent, but it sounds like it might be more work than I anticipated.
