Why Did My Tulips Shrivel Up?

Asked By TulipLover88 On

I got some tulips from Trader Joe's about two weeks ago and kept them on my windowsill in bright, indirect sunlight (with some direct light when the sun sets during this time of year). I watered them once a week, but now they've shriveled up and I'm not sure what went wrong. Do you think they got burnt or too cold? The bulbs were in the soil, and I just cut the stems back to the soil level to try again. I'd really appreciate any advice!

Honestly, two weeks is about as long as tulips usually last indoors. They’re not meant to stick around much longer than that. When they start to shrivel, it’s not unusual. You can cut them down to the bulbs, dry them out, and store them in a cool, dark place. Then in November, you can plant them again! If you're feeling adventurous, you can plant them now and just let them be until spring!

Hey! It would really help if you could share a pic of your tulips so we can see what’s going on. I've been growing tulips for a while and they usually do great. Just try to give us a visual! 🏵️
