Why Do My Driver Bit Sets Keep Rusting?

Asked By RustyNinja42 On

I'm experiencing a frustrating problem with my driver bit sets. Even though they're stored away from water and corrosive materials, they start rusting almost immediately. I really like the compact design of these sets, especially the newer flip-up holders, which is why I keep replacing them every six months or so. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas on how to prevent the rust?

You can totally use rusty tools, though! They still function well even when they show some corrosion.

Really? I've been tossing them to my coworkers as soon as they get rusty! But it’s annoying when I try to keep everything clean and then have rust spreading to my other bits.

I haven't had that issue! Are you keeping them near pool chemicals or anything like that? Sometimes those can really mess with metal tools.

Nope, I've checked what's around them. It's strange because they're the only tools I own that start rusting like this without heavy use.

Try wiping them with some fluid film and storing them in a warmer area of your house. You might also want to throw in a Zerust packet where you keep them. That should help a lot!
