Why Do My Plants Keep Dying?

Asked By PlantNinja85 On

I feel like I kill every plant I touch! No matter which ones I try, they just don't survive. I've done tons of research, created specific soil mixes, and adjusted my watering and lighting routines, even using a pH and moisture meter. Despite all that, I keep getting plants that seem fine, only for them to die on me. What am I doing wrong?

Plants thrive with stability, so avoid constantly changing their environment. Only change one factor at a time, and most houseplants only need watering when they start to wilt. I’d also suggest making a daily check on them part of your routine, just to keep an eye on their well-being without overdoing it!

Things that really helped me: Try to get your plants from local shops where the staff can give you solid advice. Also, consider planting native species outside—they're usually a lot easier to care for and thrive better in their natural environment.

It sounds like you might be overdoing it! Sometimes too much care can be a bad thing. I’ve killed a good few plants myself, mainly from overwatering or giving them too much sun. I’d suggest simplifying your routine: just get a watering schedule down and leave them be for a bit. Trust me, plants can thrive on a bit of neglect!

Consider sticking to the basics! Check the soil with your finger—if it's dry, water it, but not too much. Keep them in morning sun with afternoon shade. Let them be unless they show signs of distress, and avoid constantly pulling them out of their pots or changing their conditions. I find that my plants actually like being a little neglected!

This is solid advice! I’ve noticed mine do better when I don't fuss over them too much.
