I had a funny encounter with a parks and rec worker recently. I saw a guy parked in his truck and thought it would be nice to ask him what he was up to that day since I'm really interested in their work. Instead of a friendly chat, he responded defensively, which made me drive off. Is this a common reaction from parks and rec staff? Are they usually like that?

It might come off as a strange question for a stranger to ask, especially while they’re working. A lot of folks in public service get cautious when approached. Don’t take it personally!
That's true! I mean, some people just might not be in the mood to chat, or they're trying to focus on their job.
