Why Does Gardening Feel More Exhausting Than a Gym Workout?

I've been thinking about how gardening can leave me feeling more drained after just two hours compared to two hours of weightlifting or cardio. It seems like gardening is often overlooked when it comes to workouts, but it's definitely a serious workout! What gives?

Totally get what you mean! Many folks probably think gardening is just about picking flowers, but it's hardcore work! Trust me, my ‘guns’ didn't come from deadheading—they come from digging, moving rocks, and dealing with weeds. It’s a serious workout.

I had a chat with my wife about this very issue. I built and filled raised garden beds a couple of weekends ago and, as a competitive strongman, I was dead afterward! Seriously, how do those older ladies do it? Are they secretly strong?

I felt the same way this weekend! Lifting soil bags had me sweating buckets. It’s hilarious when you think about it—my neighbor probably thought I was having a tough time just holding that bag! ?

Not a bead of sweat got in my eyes while I was struggling with the bag, and my neighbor was definitely watching and wondering what was wrong with me! ?
