I'm having a bit of trouble with my 23 gauge pin nailer. It seems like I'm doing something wrong, but I can't quite figure it out. Unlike with my 18 gauge pin nailer, where everything goes smoothly, the 23 gauge pins keep bending or doing a U-turn when I try to use them on delicate moldings. I've checked that I'm holding the nailer the right way and even tried turning it 90 degrees, but nothing seems to work. I'm really stuck on this—any tips?

Sounds like the wood you’re using might be a bit too hard for those 23 gauge pins. Maybe try using shorter pins or a softer wood, or if you can, go for a larger gauge nail instead. That could help avoid the problem you're facing!
You should also consider whether you're using a pneumatic or battery-operated nailer. If it's pneumatic, try increasing the pressure. If you’re using a cordless, just keep in mind that it comes with some trade-offs. I haven’t had problems with bending nails when using my pneumatic on any type of wood.
It might just be one of those moments where the universe is nudging you to stick with the 18 gauge for now, especially if it’s not splitting the trim. Sometimes the 23 gauge isn't the best option, especially if the wood is tough! You might want to consider that before pushing through with it.
