I recently won a Dewalt 20V Max XR 7 1/4" circular saw at an auction for $55. Unfortunately, I missed the fine print that stated the saw is damaged and doesn't work. When I checked, I noticed the model number on the saw is DCS574, but the box shows DCS590WW1. Can anyone explain why Dewalt would package a different model number in the box? I'm hoping to find a reason to argue that the auction was misleading so I can return this saw.

Sounds like a classic case of getting bamboozled! If the ad stated it was broken, they might not do much about it. You know what they say, if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is.
Auctions often deal with items from return pallets. It sounds like someone may have swapped the broken DCS574 with a DCS590 and then returned the wrong one. So you're probably dealing with a mix-up rather than anything Dewalt did wrong.
It seems like the auction setup might not have properly returned the saw to its original box. Since it’s a used item and was noted as damaged, it’s unlikely to be Dewalt's fault here. Just a mix-up during the return process.

Yeah, I guess I should have been more careful before bidding. Live and learn!
