Why Does My Dishwasher Smell Bad? Possible Plumbing Issues?

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a persistent bad smell coming from my dishwasher. It's only 4 years old and has been stinking almost right from the start. We make sure to clean the filter regularly and even run high-temperature washes a few times a week. Any idea what could be causing this issue?

It sounds like the drainage hose might not be positioned correctly. Making sure it forms a high loop can help prevent any nasty odors from developing. Sometimes, if it’s too low, it can trap water and food particles, leading to those smells. You might want to check that out!

Yeah, I totally agree with you! Just from reading this, I suspect the same. A proper loop is critical for drainage.

You might also want to check the drain inside the dishwasher. There’s a filter designed to catch food particles, and if that gets too clogged, it can cause odors. I check mine regularly to avoid this problem. Plus, it’s good to know that if your sink isn’t smelling, it’s likely not a sewer issue; could just be the dishwasher filter.

Actually, the filter in mine is clean too, and it still smells! It seems like the dishwasher just has a mind of its own.
