Why Does My Dishwasher Tablet Drawer Keep Opening During Rinse?

Asked By WanderingPine72 On

I've noticed that my dishwasher's tablet drawer makes a clicking sound every 15-20 seconds during the rinse cycle. It seems to be trying to open even when it's already open. What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

That drawer is mostly for powder or liquid detergents, not tablets. Just toss the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher, and you should be all set! No need to worry about the drawer opening if you're not using it.

One tech told me that you can just toss the tablet directly into the basin instead of using the drawer, which has been working for me. If you’re worried about it opening during the cycle, it might be okay. But if it’s just the clicking sound bothering you, make sure it's actually the drawer opening and not something else, like the spray arms or other items inside. If it really is the drawer, it could mean the control board is sending signals to open it repeatedly. That’s where my troubleshooting ends, but it might need looking into!

I had an issue with my control board on a dryer and ended up needing a replacement. Maybe try a factory reset first, though, in case it's just a glitch.
