I recently moved into a new house, and I've come across a strange issue with the garage door. It seems like every time I trip the sensors—which are properly aligned—the door closes instead of reversing back up as it's supposed to. First, can you tell us what make and model your garage door opener is? That could help us pinpoint the problem better.
It sounds like the wiring for your sensors might be connected incorrectly. If the wires are linked to the input for the wall-mounted open/close button instead, it could cause this issue. I'd recommend checking the wiring for any mix-ups.
I found out that yours is a Genie model 7055D. You should check the manual for wiring details; page 16 has a diagram for the sensors and button setup. That should help you correct the wiring if that's where the problem lies.
