Why Does My New M18 String Trimmer Keep Jamming?

Hey everyone! I picked up a new M18 string trimmer last fall from Home Depot and it worked fine for a while, but now that I'm tackling some overdue edging, it's jamming constantly. I'm using the original string that it came with, and it seems to get stuck before it even runs out. I tried re-spooling it, but it just jams again. Even with new 0.095 round string, I've only added about 15 feet, and it jams right away. Is this a common issue with these trimmers or is there a specific technique to loading the string? I loaded it by twisting the head as instructed. Kind of frustrating that I've only realized this problem almost a year after purchase!

Did you take apart the head to load the line? I've found that helps it feed a bit better. I took it apart to clean it, then reloaded the string by twisting the top like the manual says.

Yeah, I took it apart to get the old line out, then assembled it back to load the new line.

I've had my M18 for a while now, and honestly, I’ve never experienced any jamming issues. The string I use is some random green twist, and it works just fine.

Same here, I’ve used original line and even some Stihl line without issues. Must just be luck!

Mine jams too! I tried generic 0.095 from Amazon, and while it's better, it still has its moments. The original line is collecting dust in my garage! I've heard others mention swapping to a Husqvarna head that's supposed to be a lot better—might be worth it if the jamming keeps happening.

Have you noticed if a thinner or thicker line reduces jamming?
