Why don’t apartment dwellers team up for handyman jobs and grocery deliveries?

Hey everyone! I'm curious if any apartment communities have a way to coordinate things like handyman services or grocery deliveries together. I just spent $300 on an electrician for a quick fix because of a two-hour minimum charge plus travel costs. It got me thinking that if neighbors teamed up for handyman jobs, we could save some cash—like splitting the cost and saving $150 each. The same could apply to grocery deliveries; grouping orders could really help cut down expenses. Does anyone know if this kind of system exists, or do you think something like an app for this could help?

It's tough because people in apartments usually don't know their neighbors well. Many folks move every couple of years, and honestly, I wouldn’t want to share groceries with someone I've just met. Plus, we all have different shopping styles, and waiting around to sort through combined groceries seems like a hassle.

I get what you're saying, but from a handyman's perspective, why would I split my minimum time? If I can bill you for two hours of work and then just hop next door to do the same thing, that’s more money for me. Plus, there are complications with two different clients, like liability issues, which can be a headache.

But if you're guaranteed two clients at once, it could still work out for you. You could charge your minimum and just save on one travel fee, possibly making more overall.

Actually, my company does group maintenance for multiple apartment complexes, and we offer a pretty decent discount since we’re already there. It can get a little hectic because we often deal with unique customer needs, but for us, it does help cut costs a bit. About groceries—yeah, there’s a lot of planning involved for that, but it's doable!

That's such a useful service! Have you ever thought about expanding your operations or lowering the discount to attract more clients?
