Why Grow Pole Beans?

I'm curious about the reasons behind growing pole beans. Are they meant for storage, cooking, or something else? What are some popular uses for them?

Pole beans are fantastic because they're just so much easier to pick compared to bush beans! I spent my childhood harvesting bushels of bush beans, and trust me, I wouldn't want to go back. Also, I grew them on an arched cattle panel trellis, which made picking a breeze until the deer and chickens decided to have their fill! We typically cook them fresh in large batches, and while we could freeze them if we had extras, we aren't fans of canning them. It's all about enjoying them while they're fresh!

Wow, that trellis idea sounds great! I might have to give that a try, but I’ll definitely guard them better. Freshly cooked pole beans really do make a difference!

I absolutely love runner beans! They're super easy to grow and I often just string them and steam them as a simple side dish. They also taste amazing when cut into strips and tossed with tomato sauce, especially served alongside a nice white fish fillet. Definitely a versatile veggie!

Fried green beans are a must-try! They're super tasty and add a nice crunch if you cook them right. Plus, each pole bean plant gives you tons of food throughout the summer—wonderful for maximizing your garden space! Just use them like you'd use regular green beans, and you're all set.
