Has anyone else had frustrating experiences when trying to buy supplies, especially paint? I recently went to a paint store knowing exactly what I needed, but their stock made me adjust my choice. Then, instead of just selling me what I asked for, they started mansplaining the differences between matte and satin finishes, trying to push me towards matte for my living room and stairwell because they didn't want to sell the satin I wanted. It shouldn't be this hard to just get what I want! I'm curious if other women face similar pressures or pushback when shopping for supplies. Anyone else feel this way?

As someone who works in construction, I constantly deal with this. I often go to places like Lowe's or Home Depot, and I'm frequently interrupted by employees trying to upsell or give unrequested advice. It's frustrating, especially when you're just there to grab a specific item. I feel like they often don’t even know what they’re talking about!

I totally relate! When they start steering you away from what you want, I usually say something like, "It seems like you're trying to guide me somewhere specific. Can you tell me why?" It's definitely annoying, especially if they're just out of stock. If they're refusing to sell you what you need for no good reason, that's just absurd. Honestly, just ask for what you want and stand your ground if they try to push back!
Exactly! I had a similar situation where I just had to insist on what I originally wanted, and thankfully, I got it in the end.
Have you thought about discussing your concerns with them? Like, maybe mention that you’d give them more business if they improved their stock of things like specific sheens?
