Hey everyone! I'm considering picking up some free double-pane windows, but they've been stored flat for years with cushions between them. I've heard a lot of warnings against storing them vertically, but I can't find a clear reason why that's a problem. Is it just about avoiding shattering? Also, is there any way I can check if they're still good? Any advice would be appreciated!

There’s really no foolproof way to test their integrity, but usually, for standard-sized home windows, you shouldn’t worry too much. If they haven’t shattered already, they’re likely okay. The main concern with storing them vertically is the risk of shattering from their own weight or seal failure. Larger pieces like storefront glass can be more problematic due to the mass involved.

That totally makes sense. Thank you!
