I've been running a custom millwork shop in Hawaii for two years now and despite offering competitive pay ($50-$60/hour), great benefits including fully covered health insurance and 401k, and even relocation assistance, I just can't seem to attract talented workers. I've sifted through hundreds of resumes and conducted numerous interviews and job trials, spending close to $50k in the process, but I've only managed to keep one good employee. I'm looking for any advice or insights on this situation. Is anyone else feeling this same struggle?

Have you considered starting an apprenticeship program? It could help you build the skills you need from the ground up and gives you a chance to see how new hires fit into your shop’s culture. Plus, it's a great way to nurture future talent!
Your pay sounds excellent, but it might be worth looking into whether folks can afford to live in Hawaii while also looking for skilled jobs. Sometimes the locals might already have positions, and retraining someone could be the key. If you find someone eager to learn, they could be a gem!

Yeah, it sounds like you might need to train someone from scratch if the talent pool is small. Plus, helping locals develop their skills could really enhance the community!
