I'm having a frustrating issue with my main apartment door handle. It gets stuck halfway, and I have to push it down really hard to get it to open, which isn't ideal and might break it sooner or later. I've attempted to fix it by filing the bottom hole to reduce friction, but that hasn't helped at all, and I'm worried about making it worse. I've also tightened all the screws I could find, but there aren't any on the hinges. What could be causing this problem?

Another option is just to take it apart and familiarize yourself with the components. Check the manufacturer's website for FAQs that might help!
If it's really troublesome, I'd recommend contacting your landlord or the maintenance supervisor to have it replaced. If that isn't an option, you could disassemble the handle, lubricate the parts, and reassemble it. Might solve the problem!
It sounds like the handle mechanism might be misaligned, or it could need some lubrication. Sometimes, if the screws holding the two halves together are too tight, that can also cause sticking. Best bet might be to take a closer look at the alignment and see if anything seems off. Good luck!
So, is the binding happening only when the door is closed? If you open the door and press the latch bolt in and out, does it move smoothly or does it get stuck? That could help narrow it down.

It's a pretty new door, just two years old. Do you really think it could be lack of lubrication causing this?
