I recently bought a basil plant from Lidl, and this is my second attempt at keeping one alive. I just took the plastic cover off but I'm not sure if I should have done that earlier. I'm concerned that I might be overwatering it or that it isn't getting enough sunlight. It's really frustrating because I just can't seem to keep it healthy!

It sounds like your basil might be struggling due to a few factors. Make sure you're letting the top inch of soil dry out between waterings; basil doesn't like soggy roots. Also, try to place it in a spot where it can get at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. They love warmth and brightness! If it's wilting, it could be a sign of either overwatering or not enough light. Good luck, you got this!
Removing the cover was a good call! Just keep an eye on your watering habits. Basil prefers not being overly thirsty, so check the soil moisture before you water. If it's too wet, let it dry out a bit. Also, if you can, rotate the plant occasionally to ensure it gets light on all sides. Overall, these plants are pretty resilient, so don’t lose hope!
