I went outside today and heard a lot of water running. When I checked, I saw that a brown pipe was spraying water! At the time, I had my dishwasher going. Now I'm left with standing water, and I'm totally confused about what's going on. Anyone have insights?

If you're on septic, that definitely makes a difference! It might be worth investigating whether your drainage system could be causing water to back up. Definitely don't ignore that standing water!
It sounds like there may be a drainage issue. If something's not draining properly, you could be facing a significant problem. I’d suggest looking into it ASAP! Standing water can lead to bigger messes down the line.
You might want to check if your gutters are connected to the sewer system. If they’re not and you’re on septic, that might change how things are supposed to work. Just a thought!
