Why is my chisel’s secondary bevel sloping to the side?

I've been sharpening my chisel, but I noticed that the secondary bevel is sloping to the side. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. By the way, I'm sharpening freehand, not using a jig. Any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like you might be applying uneven pressure while sharpening freehand. Try to keep your hands steady and maintain a consistent angle throughout the process. It can help to focus on one side at a time to get the bevel even. Practice makes perfect!

Totally agree! Freehand sharpening takes some getting used to. You might find it helpful to practice on some inexpensive chisels before you work on your best ones.
