I painted my walls about six months ago using Sherwin-Williams paint, and I've noticed some concerning issues. Just lightly touching the wall or leaving anything rubbing against it can cause chunks to come off. I can even lift the paint with my fingernails without much pressure. This paint feels really thin, almost like latex. The contractor insists this damage is normal, but I've painted before with different brands and didn't have this problem. In fact, I can scratch my other walls without leaving a mark! Has anyone else experienced this? What could be going wrong?

I have a feeling it might be that cheap, low-quality paint some contractors use. You know, the kind that comes in ten-gallon buckets on the bottom shelf at Home Depot. They might have cut corners on the paint to save money, which could explain the issues. Try to find out what exactly was used.
I’m wondering if the walls were previously painted with oil-based paint. If that’s the case, switching to latex without proper prep can lead to problems. You need to ensure the old paint's surface is primed correctly for any new latex paint to stick well. Might be worth looking into!
That doesn't sound normal at all! It might be worth checking if they used a primer before painting. If they didn’t, that could definitely lead to poor adhesion and damage like you’re seeing. If this was happening just a few days after painting, I could see it being an issue, but six months later? That's unusual.
