I'm based in central New Jersey and have noticed that my garden just isn't thriving this season. My basil plants are either stagnating with only a few layers of leaves or dying off completely. The tomatoes are growing, but it's at a snail's pace. In previous years, my basil was abundant, but this May feels unusually cold, and I'm wondering if that's affecting growth? Could the chilly weather be the reason?

I’m over in the NJ Pine Barrens, and it’s way too wet and cold for warm-weather crops. I'm actually thinking about building a DIY polytunnel for next year to help with the cool conditions we’re facing now!
I'm from the Massachusetts seashore and my tomatoes are being dramatic. Meanwhile, my white onions are doing fantastic! Maybe it really is all about the weather right now.
I don't live in NJ, but I'm just north and experiencing similar issues. Things are super sluggish due to some warm spells followed by heavy rain and cold. I'm holding out until we get more sunshine!
From my observations, it feels like March again for many places—cold and rainy. Both tomatoes and basil really need that sun and heat to thrive, so hang in there!

Yeah, it’s frustrating, but good to know I’m not alone! Hope for some sunny days soon!
