Hey everyone, I've been having an issue with my hot water coming out brown lately. We replaced the water heater about six years ago, and a few months back, I noticed the brown water issue. We flushed the tank, but now it's happening again. Is there anything besides the water heater I should look into? Could it be time for a replacement already? Thanks for any advice!

Brown water is often a sign that the sacrificial anode rod is getting worn out. I just replaced mine after about 12 years, and within that time, it got pretty corroded. If you're comfortable, you could use a camera to check its condition through the heating element ports. A good flush and inspection annually can really help prevent these issues!
It sounds like the anode rod in your hot water heater might need replacing. When it stops working properly, sediment from the tank can get into your hot water. Also, make sure to clean out the screens on your faucets to eliminate any build-up there.
You might just need to let the hot water run for a bit but it could also depend on your water supply. If you have well water or hard water, that could contribute to the brown color. Sometimes, construction nearby can stir up rust and sediment, leading to brown water too. Just keep it running for a while and see if it clears up!
Yeah, I noticed that when we did repairs on the pipes. The water thinned out after running it for a bit.

Exactly! Replacing the anode rod can save you a lot of trouble down the line. Just swap it for a powered one and you'll be good for years.
