Why is my money tree struggling so much?

I received a money tree for my birthday, but it has been a major hassle. It started dropping a lot of leaves right after I got it, and despite moving it to different spots, it keeps losing more leaves. Currently, it's in a spot with bright indirect light, but the leaf drop continues and now some leaves are developing brown patches. What can I do to help this plant? It's really starting to frustrate me!

Money trees can be tricky! I have one that I nearly lost after overwatering it, then I just left it alone for a month, and it perked up. It seems like they do better with some neglect rather than constant watering. Just be careful with the soil too; make sure it's well-draining to avoid rot. Trust me, they're not as easy as they say!

That makes sense! I’ll try cutting back my watering and see how it reacts. Sounds like too much pampering can backfire.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too; finding that balance with these plants is key. I’ve also been lucky with mine—less water means less stress for it.

Honestly, I feel you! My money tree has been super dramatic too. I got it from a friend, and it went through a major leaf drop phase until I figured out its needs. It finally found its happy spot where it gets a bit of direct sun each day (like 45 mins), plus bright light the rest of the time. I water it maybe every six weeks. Less fuss, more luck, right?

I think I might be overwatering mine too. It gets indirect light and I always worry about it drying out, but I feel like that might be causing the issues. Maybe letting it dry out a bit more could help.

Same here, I’ve had mine in a spot where it only gets soft light, and I kinda ignored it for a bit. I think it was happier that way!

I totally get your struggle! I’ve had multiple money trees, and they seem to thrive on a little neglect. They don't like to be overwatered, and mine really perked up once I started giving it less attention. Remember to keep them in well-draining soil and don’t pot them too large! It’s definitely more of an intermediate plant than they make it sound.

Sounds like I need to back off too. It’s hard not to fuss over them when we just want them to thrive. Thanks for the tip!

So true! It’s like they want to be left alone to grow. I’m trying that approach with mine and it's been okay so far!
